Bike crash

It was dusk and I was happily riding home. There's a dark path under the bridge which my SGD35 little LED lights were unable to provide a proper vision. Soon, it all happened.

A bump about 20cm tall was there and I'm cruising at a moderate speed. I went into the air and the next thing I know, I'm on the ground. My bicycle got thrown away for a few metre and luckily minimal damage is sustained.

I went rolling on the ground filled with sands and dirts. Thankfully, my pully packed Deuter stopped the rolling and I was stunned.

I stand up feeling no pain at all but I knew I was bleeding hard. Immediately my past experience tells me to rush home and stay calm to lower my blood pressure so that I don't bleed that much !

Went home and I began my self healing process. Got a cupful of hot boiling water and half a cup of cold clean water. Two capful of Dettol Germicide and lot's of cottons and I began the excruciating painful process of slowly removing all the dirts and sands from my wound.

Best of all, I am not afraid. It seems as if I am born to not feel fear at all. Funny huh ? Perhaps I've grown stronger and more independent than what I thought I am. Remembering how I broke my leg and flew back to Penang alone and I didn't drop a tear ! And how I had neck injury and went to the doctor alone. How I had another fall like this a year ago and still managed to take a good care of myself. The instinct of survivalism grows really deep in me, so much so that I know when I fall, there's no use crying. I should just stand up and heal myself and keep fighting.

It's a new year. Babe and I fought over something pretty trivial but I guess she wants me to not take it as a trivial matter hence the fight. Oh well... Yes babe, I'm going to fix it. Since you are sleeping like a pig now I think this is the perfect opportunity to fix it.

It's a new year. I just want to keep the goods things we are enjoying now and dump the bad things. I'm working really really hard on it and hopefully, things get well forever for you and me ! :)

This year what both of us must really do is slim down ! Darling we are both so fat and unhealthy and I really want to change that fact ! Hopefully before Chinese New Year we can trim 4kgs off our bossums LOL.

Ok. Google has annouced that Google Wave's going dead starting 2012. Poor dude... I surely appreciate that service just hoping that they will improve their sync responsiveness.Anyway.. I believe i'll just leave my google+ to stay there and lie dormant. Not going to use it. In fact I'm getting sick of Google's copycat approach lately. From the Nexus phone to the Android to Google+ ! Sheer copycat culture and that's for losers. Winners innovate, not copy.

Meanwhile, a week ago I was damn stress so I chowed down another steak !! Woops !!

The meat is pink. Not bloody anymore this time. Though I would appreciate some sizzling plate or hotplate to keep the meat warm, as when i hit the nice fatty part, it's dead cold. Pity that.

Woke up at 5 to get a quick revision of the paper.. and the sky and sun took my attention instead.

Shot it with my iPhone and the Camera+ app which allows me to adjust exposure and focus accordingly. And I'm very pleased with the outcome.

After the exam, head was flying around. Feel stress, go eat steak at Astons :

Had it cooked medium, feels good factor go up 100 times, oh yeah I'm ready for the next paper !

Go home, rest. Wake up and prepare to go Aunt's house. Has a list of inventories to bring. End up like a hauling cow. I'm cool :

Last note : the weather nowadays are like shit ! Can't stand much of it. Seriously !

Was having a long long week so I've decided to give myself a treat, FISH SOUP BEE HOON !

Went to this shop called 136 Hong Kong Street Fish Head Steamboat 香港街魚頭爐 .

I gotta say their food is awesome. Especially the Fish Soup Bee Hoon !

I got addicted to this dish ever since I came to SIngapore. Well I truly appreciate how Singaporean

love fish on their hawker fares ! It's something I can hardly find in Sungai Petani... err... wait well ok, assam laksa is made of fish too. Right ? ROFL.

Night clowdy yellowish broth with fish fillets pan seared to perfection with lot's of black woks !

Awesome sweetness of the fish and the smoothness of the bee hoon seriously melt my heart and i wanna die eating this !

Why the disappointment with iPhone 4S ? Just my opinions- Part 1

Well yeah, I stayed up the whole night watching the live web update about the iPhone 4S reveal. Well you know what ? I woke up seeing the whole world condemning the iPhone 4S. Well, honestly I don't see why people are so upset about it. Well yeah actually I do, it's because people all agree that Apple Inc is such an industry defining company that the whole world are waiting for them to create wave after wave of technology-normal life harmony. People all love Apple Inc and they certainly do place a high hope on this company, as if they are a God's institution that will rain hopes and heaven on mankind !

Well, reality check, it takes time and patience for real innovation to happen. Technological advances can be accelerated but at a slow pace. Sometimes, resources are being shifted around to create a whole new dimension of new product. You'll never know, what Apple is up to again this time ! 18 months just to upgrade the hardware of iPhone 4 into iPhone 4S doesn't sound like Apple to me. I strongly believe something big is coming real soon. After all, this is the world's 2nd biggest company in terms of cash in the bank!

Well there's certainly a lot of substance in the iPhone 4S. Despite the whole world critisizing it, Apple's online store got jammed up with pre-orders! So why am I so obsessed with iPhone ? Well, like I've said, there are a lot of substance in this phone. I'll write that in the next part of this series.

Econs exam was over and I guess I did ok =) Cant say that I'm a sure win but yeah it's good. Gotta watch your mouth and be humble you know ? Cause some loser's eye might turn red when you boast about something online and they start to accuse and dirty up your image outside of your radar. Haha, if you know what I'm trying to say...

But anyway, we've got some cool pictures up today. Shot some views of University Town, a premier state-of-the-art university campus of NUS (National University of Singapore). Man, this place is awesome !! Even the exchange students from Yale that I made friend with today told me so. She said there's NO SUCH FACILITIES IN United States University ! Cool shit, I know NUS gonna carve it's own legend one day! I bet she will =) *winks*

Here's two pictures I shot with my iPhone 4 today. It's about the Mac Common facility in Utown.

Mac Common is a room sponsored by Apple Inc to help NUS produce top class leaders in the future. Here we have 30 Macs and 24 hours air-conditioned room for studies. Power plugs are everywhere so no worry if you need a power point for your laptop. Rest assured, this is probably the best study room in an Asian university ! And I've took residence in this room since. Spending most of my non-lecture time here studying and as I'm doing now, studying hard. Gotta make Steve Job feel that he's doing the right thing for sponsoring us =) Well hopefully Tim Cook you'll sponsor another 30 Macs for us will you ? Or maybe give us more discounts when buying a Mac, cause I'm seriously considering buying one in the future, which will complete my trio of iPhone, iPad and an iMac =)

I've never studied so hard in my NUS life before. Never.. this is my first time... reading up all lecture notes, reading up all the textbooks, doing all the questions in textbooks, doing the questions again, watching the webcast again and again..

Fear contribute a lot to my change. I have to admit. But thankfully there's Mac Commons in NUS, where I get Mac desktop usage for the whole fucking day =)

Anyway, say hi to my delicious dinner, Yong Tau Fu ! Only cost me $3.50 delicious !!

This shop's interior is like the good old days. Ate this when I passed by Arab Street to help my folks buy some cloth. The shop is located in Bugis Area. Honestly that area is a gourmet paradise but what you need is lot's of cash and bling blings to get it into your palate.

The beef is tender and nice. I can tell it's not Indon/Malaysian beef. It could be those air beef from US or Australia. The vegetables are fresh too ! One trick when you eat "cze char" is that some cooks over-cooked the vegetables and they become bland and yellow, which reduce their refreshing property. When you eat a dish with lot's of meat, you occasionally want some refreshment to bring the perks in your palate down so that you can enjoy more from those meat.

Over the place and food is good. What saddens me is the price. At $6.00 yes I know it's air beef and it taste good but oh well, I'm still a student and I'm dead hungry that day. I don't have much time to look for hawker food so I settled on this. The price brought down my rating for this outlet.

Hi people,

Just to share with you people what I've tasted lately. Miso Ramen from Shin-Sapporo. It's awesome at a proper price too !

Look at this, look at the egg especially ! It's Shin-Sapporo's signature tamago. At $14.50 this huge bowl of ramen is more than enough for 2 person. Best part is, it's awesome.

The pig bone broth is thick and well cooked. The noodles are like 100% natural Maggi noodle, chewy and well crafted. The corn and bean sprouts are cooked just nice. Simple delicious. Gonna go back for more in future. It's already my second trip there.

Peninsular Malaysia Customs Officers Union president Ibrahim Ahmadhad on Friday requested a meeting with Najib, saying the morale and credibility of Customs officers and staff had been tarnished by reports on corruption and money-laundering to the tune of RM108bil involving Customs officers.
Ibrahim had also said that reports claiming corruption and money-laundering involving Customs officers amounting to RM108bil were illogical because the department had generated revenue of only RM28.3bil last year.

Mr Ibrahim, you gotta be joking right ? RM108bil resulting in only RM23.3 bil is a very obvious indication that bribery and corruption has taken place.

Just had a weird dream... in that dream i have a personal jet. And i lived like a king. I can wake up and board the jet, no need to check in and etc... and fly.

Fly to many places.. come out .. ate breakfast, meet a few people, then fly back singapore. And i'm doing that everyday. What a dream.

also.. sigh. I think i just wasted this semester with 2 lousy midterms today. Can't help it. :( feel like crying sometimes... but i know it's all my fault anyway, why cry ? Just take it down into ur stomach and stand up and work again. Change of strategy and push yourself past that pole that you never knew you would be able to reach one day.

OMG you definitely can't believe it !

As a burger aficionado and I'm not in a state of hunger, the Bukkake Burger taste awesome !

Yeah I know it looked like shit now because I seriously lacked the equipment to do things properly ! I dun even have a proper chopping board or a good thong to take my materials !

But the melting cheese... the caramelized onion... and my own speciality barbeque sauce.. and OF COURSE ! The 1 inch thick meat patty there that only a maestro like ME can cook !

(it's not easy to cook an one inch thick meat patty. trust me)

Juice popping out everywhere in this burger. It is the best I've tasted so far.

Alright, shall take some free time in future to tune this recipe to perfection. Troubles to take note:

meat patty charred too fast ! I suppose its too much sugar in it.
caramelized onions still lack the KICK ! maybe need better prep on the onion chopping since i dun have a bloody chopping board !
burger bun seems too dry. need to change supplier hmm...
a bit unhealthy .. lol.. cause it's too thick and i can't chuck in any salads ! maybe i should try at least a slice of tomato.

I think if i launch this burger at premium burger price, SGD 10, I'm still gonna go into deficit cause the whole burger's material alone cost me 6 dollars !!!!

Lately my taste bud grew matured and even good burgers from Carl's Junior are heavily criticized by me. So instead of being a 'talk only no action' bastard that is common in the street, knowing that I'm a gifted cook I'm gonna make my own burger !

Yup. Heavy investment though ! Average SGD 6.00 for a burger served with lettuce and 2 slices of American Aged Cheddar !

Here it goes, my first burger patty ! NOT GRILLED YET SO DUN KAOPEH/COMPLAIN !

Since all famous burgers are named after some nice name just as "The Botak", "Juicy Lucy" or "King's Brew Burger".

Wohoo... went to this place called Lao Pa Sat neat Tanjong Pagar. Pretty unique place.. been around for more than 100 years already. Many of Singapore's best food chain originates from here ! e.g. Yakun, Old Chang Kee.. etc etc.

The food is nice but never as good as Gurney Drive ! Yeah ~! Penang food shall remain the best in the world I would say ... fark you all Singaporean bloody imitate so many kinds of food but still fail.

What it offers that Gurney Drive don't... is the ambience.. there's a band singing in the middle and there's bloody lot's of tourist ! Japanese Koreans Caucasians whatever shit you can think of. BEST OF ALL ? Tiger beer served on draft at only $5 per pint ! WTF bloody cheap ! It's a great place for weekend soccer fever too as it operates 24 hours :)

Tried their steak. FANTASTIC. Better than the one I had in Sydney months ago.

Went to Prof Swami's lab with just 4 hours of sleep. Hear him blah blah blah for 20 minutes explaining to me what is my project. Of all.. I only remember TNFa, Tumor necrosis factor-alpha, an anti-tumoral protein. Looks "chim" at first... kinda scared when he tells me everything about the project and the protein.

But things changed when he showed me 7 copies of DNA analysis of cancer patient, of which 6 are children.

Immediately I stopped him and asked "Children ?" He replied solemnly, "Yes, children."

I was stunned... and there's immediately a fire burning in my heart telling me "YES YOU CAN AND YOU MUST DO IT !!!"

Seriously .. I kinda wonder why I choose this topic for my UROPS (Undergraduate Research Opportunity Programme in Science). This topic sounds pretty fun when you think about it. For a life science students, a chance to use instruments that you will never have the chance to even touch it. It's really an honour.

But .. sadly the difficulty of the theories kinda demoralises me. Reading through all the books that I've managed to find through the NUS Library Portal, I'm happy that NUS stocks a huge collection of books on proteins and X-ray crystallography. They even have an electronic copy of it ! Love it..

Was talking to another senior, Stephen about UROPS and apparently as a life science student we really must be ready to face the unprepared. He's working on a couple of phenotypes on C.elegans worms and apparently after 10 months his works doesn't show up any nice progress. Only in the last few weeks that those worms start showing some essential signs...

This kind of experimental disaster is what worries me most. To perform X-ray crystallography, you would need to purify a protein up to a purity beyond the expectancy of even the most well trained biochemist. To biochemist, it's good enough that if you can get a protein solution that can show some significant enzymatic activities. BUT .. for a crystallographer, it's a different kind of game.

For every 100g of protein that you purified, 1mg is used to grow the protein crystal. Of the 1mg, only 1 microgram will become a crystal. Of 100 crystal that you managed to grow, only 5 to 10 shows acceptable electron density map after being bombarded with X-ray.

Looks tedious. Yes. It is. In fact, it should. After all, how many light bulbs has Thomas Edison build to come up with one that can last 1200 hours ? How many kilogrammes of pitchblende has Madame Curie purified that ultimately lead to her death, in search of radioactivity mechanism ? Science exploration is always a test of endurance, motivation and determination.

But judging from my nice big belly I brought back from Melbourne and Malaysia I guess it's better to work out some cardiac exercise before dipping myself back into the pool again .. siended..
