Beer Troubleshooting. HAHA classic, love this one!

90599_700b

HAHA. Love this one. Honestly I'm a beer person myself. I love beer and I drink them to meditate and think deeply about things I would like to know more about. Sad to say yeah I need beer to help me think cause I'm an over-thinking person. Without beer there's just too many rubbish running about my head!

So here it is. Beer-troubleshooting. Hope you like it. Thanks 9GAG for the picture.

Exam First Blood..

Woke up at 5 to get a quick revision of the paper.. and the sky and sun took my attention instead.

Shot it with my iPhone and the Camera+ app which allows me to adjust exposure and focus accordingly. And I'm very pleased with the outcome.

After the exam, head was flying around. Feel stress, go eat steak at Astons :

Had it cooked medium, feels good factor go up 100 times, oh yeah I'm ready for the next paper !

Go home, rest. Wake up and prepare to go Aunt's house. Has a list of inventories to bring. End up like a hauling cow. I'm cool :

Last note : the weather nowadays are like shit ! Can't stand much of it. Seriously !

It's a productive weekend.

Hi people,

Econs exam was over and I guess I did ok =) Cant say that I'm a sure win but yeah it's good. Gotta watch your mouth and be humble you know ? Cause some loser's eye might turn red when you boast about something online and they start to accuse and dirty up your image outside of your radar. Haha, if you know what I'm trying to say...

But anyway, we've got some cool pictures up today. Shot some views of University Town, a premier state-of-the-art university campus of NUS (National University of Singapore). Man, this place is awesome !! Even the exchange students from Yale that I made friend with today told me so. She said there's NO SUCH FACILITIES IN United States University ! Cool shit, I know NUS gonna carve it's own legend one day! I bet she will =) *winks*

Here's two pictures I shot with my iPhone 4 today. It's about the Mac Common facility in Utown.

picnikfile_OcvmzV

picnikfile_LqDy_M

Mac Common is a room sponsored by Apple Inc to help NUS produce top class leaders in the future. Here we have 30 Macs and 24 hours air-conditioned room for studies. Power plugs are everywhere so no worry if you need a power point for your laptop. Rest assured, this is probably the best study room in an Asian university ! And I've took residence in this room since. Spending most of my non-lecture time here studying and as I'm doing now, studying hard. Gotta make Steve Job feel that he's doing the right thing for sponsoring us =) Well hopefully Tim Cook you'll sponsor another 30 Macs for us will you ? Or maybe give us more discounts when buying a Mac, cause I'm seriously considering buying one in the future, which will complete my trio of iPhone, iPad and an iMac =)

Wee away and see you again, red-eyed loser =) *winks off, and you wankers sank-off*

So tired... but it's a good change.

I've never studied so hard in my NUS life before. Never.. this is my first time... reading up all lecture notes, reading up all the textbooks, doing all the questions in textbooks, doing the questions again, watching the webcast again and again..

Fear contribute a lot to my change. I have to admit. But thankfully there's Mac Commons in NUS, where I get Mac desktop usage for the whole fucking day =)

Anyway, say hi to my delicious dinner, Yong Tau Fu ! Only cost me $3.50 delicious !!

Midterm Exxxamzzz

I gotta exam is the one thing that pushed out the best in man.

But then again, there is this saying NUS = no use studying.

Well, i think that only applies to the rest of NUS' 15,000 populace. For me, i'm not that smart so yeah let's study.

Re-orientation needed...

Sometimes... i wonder who am i in this megapolis. Where do i stand ? What role will i play ? Is it minor or major ? By the time i'm 50 will i be happy ?

Thoughts about the future have been crippling through my mind ever since RAG Day. I need to find a target, and bang it down hard. And a target i did found, but it's kinda intimidating. Straight aces have never been something a dude like me can do, but i know i'm not gonna last long if i don't do it. It's about survivalism now.

The real mindset that LKY have been trying to instill in his people's mindset. Well... i guess i just have to embrace it as well ? Cause if i don't, where do i stand in a society of elites and champions ?

When you come to kiasu-land, you gotta play it the kiasu-way. Throw away the kampung mindset, it's time for the next level. Aim for the highest, for all you know it's gonna lead you higher than not doing it at all.

I'm poor..

Honestly i didnt realise that i am so poor now. What's the reason behind this poverty i've seriously no idea. So far i'm left with a hundred bucks and i gotta make do with what i've left. Bless me.

Sorry.

Hey..! CHEESEBUN ! CHEESEBUN WITH LOT'S OF SNOWY ICING SUGARS !!

I'm sorry not that I wanted to do that..

but.. since March last year when I popped the first bottle of hoegaarden, life has been upside down for me and I'm struggling to keep things back to the balance.

Don't blame me for that. help me change things. Not blame me or scold me or emo-ing there. i needed support. not hate.

All i can say is for you, I've been really working hard on many changes that you have always wanted to see. But lately at the same time, life's pushing me to the very limit. It's hard for me.

Your my angel..

the very thought of Cheese Bun... made my day brighter.

Thanks.

Lectures..

Lectures sucks. Having to sit through 6 hours of lectures with an empty stomach is a terrible torture to me. Sigh.

Anyway.. I've cleaned my room roughly. It's at least suitable for me to study in now.

This monster's gonna keep me awake for good and help me push through the mountains of works !

I think Life Science is just a place for those asking for more eye-candies anyway :) yeah it's tough it's hardcore it's mad but who cares.. as long as there are some pretty girls ( a lot in fact ) smiling at you everyday in lecture who give a fark that life science is making me sleep 3 to 4 hours only ! HAHA... life's great !

Love it ! =)

p/s : too bad pretty girls are just for see only no touching no hugging no farking whatever shit you name it :)

You know what ? NUS used to have a communist logo ... AHAHA

Yeah it kinda freak my ass but NUS before becoming NUS in fact.. was a very 'cina' school.

NUS is actually the result of merger between Malaya University and Nanyang University :)

ANUG

Cool right ? The logo is soooooooo communist ! With that bloody start and the trinity circles.

Love communist. Love NUS. HAHA !

Command 09/10

finally every story must have an happy ending ...

so it is for the FYFs of A-block.

Thanks for all the guides and knowledge provided during my first year in NUS and also in NUS. I shall do it too to my juniors next year and beyond..

Presenting to all of you the "A-block Final Year Friends' Guide to Happy Hall Life - Always look on the bright side of life"

Life is just about studying ... It's what I learnt from NUS (No Use Studying)

NUS ( No Use Studying )

So uni life is supposed to be like this ?

For fark am I making my life a monotonous world ?

This stupid long weekend, my only view is this :

Tumor necrosis factor-alpha

Went to Prof Swami's lab with just 4 hours of sleep. Hear him blah blah blah for 20 minutes explaining to me what is my project. Of all.. I only remember TNFa, Tumor necrosis factor-alpha, an anti-tumoral protein. Looks "chim" at first... kinda scared when he tells me everything about the project and the protein.

But things changed when he showed me 7 copies of DNA analysis of cancer patient, of which 6 are children.

Immediately I stopped him and asked "Children ?" He replied solemnly, "Yes, children."

I was stunned... and there's immediately a fire burning in my heart telling me "YES YOU CAN AND YOU MUST DO IT !!!"

GO GO GO !!

p/s : It feels great to be given the chance to save children's lives even though the ambition of being a paediatric fails.

X-ray Crystallography ...

Seriously .. I kinda wonder why I choose this topic for my UROPS (Undergraduate Research Opportunity Programme in Science). This topic sounds pretty fun when you think about it. For a life science students, a chance to use instruments that you will never have the chance to even touch it. It's really an honour.

But .. sadly the difficulty of the theories kinda demoralises me. Reading through all the books that I've managed to find through the NUS Library Portal, I'm happy that NUS stocks a huge collection of books on proteins and X-ray crystallography. They even have an electronic copy of it ! Love it..

Was talking to another senior, Stephen about UROPS and apparently as a life science student we really must be ready to face the unprepared. He's working on a couple of phenotypes on C.elegans worms and apparently after 10 months his works doesn't show up any nice progress. Only in the last few weeks that those worms start showing some essential signs...

This kind of experimental disaster is what worries me most. To perform X-ray crystallography, you would need to purify a protein up to a purity beyond the expectancy of even the most well trained biochemist. To biochemist, it's good enough that if you can get a protein solution that can show some significant enzymatic activities. BUT .. for a crystallographer, it's a different kind of game.

For every 100g of protein that you purified, 1mg is used to grow the protein crystal. Of the 1mg, only 1 microgram will become a crystal. Of 100 crystal that you managed to grow, only 5 to 10 shows acceptable electron density map after being bombarded with X-ray.

Looks tedious. Yes. It is. In fact, it should. After all, how many light bulbs has Thomas Edison build to come up with one that can last 1200 hours ? How many kilogrammes of pitchblende has Madame Curie purified that ultimately lead to her death, in search of radioactivity mechanism ? Science exploration is always a test of endurance, motivation and determination.
