Going down South for a new adventure.

Finally after years of education, it's time to earn some real bucks. Left my family behind to embark on a new adventure and new change in life. Hope this will be a good one.

Helped kickstarted the 2nd outlet over my holidays. While all kids enjoyed grad trip and holidays overseas. I, for all my wealth, decided to plant more seeds to expand them. As a result, the 2nd outlet boast sales so well and brings happiness to the university students as well. Haha, contributing happiness to the society at a low price while profiting from it? I call that Enterprise. Having taking up photoshop skills I learnt from YouTube i'm slowly taking over the design and layout responsibility of the business too.

Ambitions shouldn't be small. That's what I've told myself since my age is still a single digit number, and I keep telling kids about that. Make your ambition big, think wild and dream on, yet anchor your thoughts on a steady base of reality and practicality. And last but not least, always have Plan B.

Happy New Year, everybody. 2012 have been a year where I pull myself out of the darkness, and it's only the beginning of my return.

Every tale is a one sided tale.

Everyman and woman have their story to tell. When one hears a story from one side, bear in mind not to make haste conclusion.

I don't want to bother anymore. Just let me be Mr Smiley amidst Tinkers, Tailors, Soldiers and Spies.

Beautiful Evening Sky I enjoy everyday

Shot this with my iPhone 4. Beautiful sky view from my apartment in Teban Garden. Awesome isn't it? Helps you take worries off your mind.

A beautiful evening. #nofilter #evening #sky

Raining cats and dogs.

The worst form of weather ever. Gives you a hot beautiful sunny day in the morning and come evening, a heavy thunder pour. Totally discourages you from doing anything.

Raining cats and dogs
I mean seriously, anything. Was thinking of going to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple to pray today, but the weather and a sick cousin totally ruined the day's plan. Wanted to go back and help out with the business expansion but guess what? The last air ticket that cost $200 and below is on Sunday and bus tickets are all sold out. Totally screwed up. I don't envision the transition of my life to be in this state of utter chaos. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. Need a good walk in the city or Orchard road. Get a pair of nice jeans and some polo shirts maybe. Need more shirts. Stepping into the working world can't dress up like a small boy anymore.

Human maturity at its best

Monday pre-work mug

Better start working out on the kinks in this field. Not very professional in the techniques though I know the basics from my journal reading past time. Kinda sad that I might lose my library proxy service to access journals one day. But don't worry, there's always open access options such as PlosONE and Cell =)

Playing today is OLIVIA's bossa nova and on tap to day is a cup of beautiful Nanyang coffee. Have a nice day everyone reading this.

Boy with degenerative disease

Saw a boy being walked around by the mom. He is suffering from some kind of degenerative disease.

Sad to see this happening in the 21st century at an age where science is being poured with billions and advances in molecular biology should have been able to stop these disease. Well, maybe another 10 more years is needed... And I hope to be in the vanguard for this crusade.

So happy that finally it's going to launch soon. Really need to stay diligent and tough for the coming days.

Am pretty sure that it's not going to be a walk in the park but HEY! No free lunch in this world ok?

Anyway I'm super excited about the new and upcoming iPhone. Probably getting it in January just before going home for Chinese New Year. =) Good Job Apple.

Week Two survived..

Am very happy with myself this semester. I've achieved what I've not in the past 6 semesters. This one will be very good I truly believe. Research has been going well albeit stressful, been staying in school for most of the days from 8am to 10.30pm.

But then again this is NUS, where giants dwarf a 6-footer. Nothing is certain. The very essence of Asia's brightest and smartests are all here. So you just have to kick in 120% just to ensure 90% of achievement.

Ok enough of my rumblings... Just want to show off some of my photos taken in Marina Bay area of Singapore. Just noob photographies.

First lecture of the semester.

This time it's going to be good. At least I know it and I have firm believes in what I can do this semester. Things are going to be glorious and beautiful.

Here's another HDR photo I took recently with my Canon 600D and 18-55mm kit lens. f8.0 and did post processing with lightroom. Am very happy with the result but I know things can be improved to a higher level =)

Beer Troubleshooting. HAHA classic, love this one!

90599_700b

HAHA. Love this one. Honestly I'm a beer person myself. I love beer and I drink them to meditate and think deeply about things I would like to know more about. Sad to say yeah I need beer to help me think cause I'm an over-thinking person. Without beer there's just too many rubbish running about my head!

So here it is. Beer-troubleshooting. Hope you like it. Thanks 9GAG for the picture.

Don't use the word "B*tch"

Like I've said long time ago, I hate people who calls a girl "Bitch". Seriously why must you do that ?

http://xiaxue.blogspot.com/2012/05/faces-of-haters.html

Like I've said. Do not use words like "whore", "bitch", "Prost" etc to describe a woman. Even though I am a male, when girls are involved, guys always be on the loser side.

History has taught us, when the Greeks and Trojan clash and thousands of men died, just for a woman, and she enjoys a long and happy life. Just beware of woman, respect them, love them and don't ever ever mess with them. When they got angry, you better pray for your willy.

Minimum Wage RM900

Ok some of the patriots may think that yeah this is important people will earn more, standard of living will increase etc shallow depth of kopitiam policy thinking.

The problem is 48% of Malaysia's GDP comes from the manufacturing industry. Malaysia, geographically is located to close proximity to China, Vietnam and India. We have access to cheap labour (from Indonesia and Bangladesh), but we face-palmed ourself now by making it a rule to pay them RM900 to work in Malaysia.

Yes, we increased our median income and perhaps abolished poverty to some extent in the short run. With the ultimate trade-off of "competitiveness". This one word, is something Malaysians never learnt about. We want great living standards without working that hard. We want subsidies. We want high wages. We think by investing in unit trusts or shares we are going to get rich quick. I call this stupidity and utter non-sense by all means.

At RM900 for minimum cost of hiring an operator in a factory, what makes you think that those factories will not move out to Vietnam or China? My bet is they will do that and thousands will lost their jobs, including engineers, executives and then service sectors such as accountants, auditors, sub-contractors, design firms will be affected too.

And Standard's and Poor's are going to downgrade the credit ratings of A- if Jibdog continue the funny policies. You know what that mean ? Nobody is going to buy Malaysian bonds, depreciation value of Ringgit Malaysia, increased cost of living due to depreciation of value and I'm sad to say those earning Ringgit may find it hard... real hard to enjoy a honeymoon trip to Europe, Japan etc. Consider Bangkok and Bali perhaps, cheaper.

Best entertainment ever

Bersih 3.0 has been a great source of excitement for me. All those accusations, all those finger pointings, all those rumors and baseless claims. Come on folks, where the hell is "perpaduan" and "integrasi". So many folks support those folks with dark blue banners... As much as folks supporting the Rocket, the Twin Crescent and the cute White Ping Pong ball.

I don't care about doing so much drama and stuff. I only know I have a vote to cast, and I'll cast that to folks that can actually provide well planned, well executed nation building plans for Malaysia. But honestly, so far I've only seen childish old men ploughing each other's arses and throwing nonsense over the air when economical worries loom in the horizon and standard of living seems to have zero improvement over the pass 10 years. And what happened to Wawasan 2020 that I've been taught to shout and cried-out-my-heart for when I was a teenager? Is it an empty promise after all?

Snippets of Life - April 2012

IMG_0441

Good food from Marina Bay Sands. Expensive though.

 IMG_0535

Best ice-cream bar in Singapore. Beats Island Creamery. Ice-cream Frenzy's the shop name.
   IMG_0534

Flat fish. BBQ-ed. Nice spicy stuff.

 IMG_0518

Singapore Prawn Noodle. Cousins of Penang's Hokkien Mee though the flavour just lacks that of Penang's. But I have to say it taste healthier, like less salty and less MSG.

IMG_0520

HDB apartment. One of these can buy about 3 houses in Malaysia. Maybe more. Resale value hit S$900k last month. Got to get one of this as early as I got my permanent resident status. Get rich fast and good.

IMG_0529

Duck rice. Something hard to find in Sungai Petani.

 IMG_0500

Penang Laksa in Singapore. Good stuff I say.

 IMG_0505

Singapore dusk.

  IMG_0510

Authentic Singapore Char Bee Hoon. A bit oily but my body will metabolize it well and fast.

  IMG_0451

Central bastion of cultural mixing. A mosque flanked by modern HDB houses on a sunny day.

  IMG_0458

Hallmark of a luxury life, LV bags, from their flagship store in Marina Bay Sands.

  IMG_0498

Healthy food. Fish soup.

  IMG_0442

Bak Kut Teh. Thick and good.

Childhood and Dreams

Many of us are approaching the start of our career life, after all these years of tedious struggles in school and colleges. It's always good to look back how close/far are we from our childhood dreams.

I shot this photo in one of the playgrounds in Jurong East. It strike me deep because of its space ship shape. When I was a kid I've always dream of being a space traveller, thanks to Star Wars.

Having some self-reflections always help to keep you in focus; to keep you afloat in the midst of real life chaos; to let your anchor your boat against the storms of worries in life.

New Shoe

Old Hush Puppy become a smiling shoe when the sole dropped off a few weeks ago. Still repairable but I guess it's time to get a replacement cause i've been wearing that puppy for 2 years almost on a daily basis! So I went to Queensway Shopping Centre and bought this sexy blue leather Converse boat shoe :)

Made of blue nübuck leather. It's pretty good stuff though it cost me like $120. I got to say $120 for a Converse ain't cheap :(

New Toy Test

Out of stupid curiousity, girlfriend and I recently splurged on a new toy, the Canon EOS-600D. Well I'm no pro at DSLR, just a couple of playing experience with it during my RAG days. So here's one sample photo I took with it. Did some colour editing using lightroom but still not satisfied with it. Don't have a tripod so I relied on holding my breath and leaning the camera to whatever clean surfaces I can get hold of, HAHA !

What does the future hold ?

There are times when I look towards the future, and when I look at the agendas I once set when I set foot into Singapore, everything just seems incomplete.Whether it's searching for scholarships for my post-graduate studies or looking for funding from other sources if scholarships slipped passed my hands. Honestly, it has been a long and tough journey, and I know, the worst is yet to come.

Wild Wild West of Singapore

Many of you think that Singapore is all about buildings and concretes. The stereotype of Singapore having no farm land no agricultural side of it is very wrong. Here are some insights into Singapore's agricultural heartland, the wild wild west of Lim Chu Kang.

0

Horticulture gardens are everywhere. Breeding plants so exotic and rare such as localised versions of rosemary and thymes that can survive the terrible weather of Singapore. Remember these are all temperate plants !

1

Localised version of rosemary. Nice herby smell :)

2

QianHu is the biggest aquarium fish breeder in Singapore. Not forgot to mention that Singapore controlled 33% of global ornamental fish market. Not bad for a tiny weeny island state huh ?

They looked really really fierce.

4

Achieving BOKEH in this photo. Focused on the cute little one in the middle.

5

QianHu's visitor area. Any kind of fish you want, you'll find them here !
